Level 4: Learn to Hem Your Clothes
3 hours | Up to 9 participants
$135
Learn to hem it yourself!
Learn how to hem your own clothes with confidence in this focused, hands-on workshop. Whether it’s a skirt that’s too long, a dress sitting at an awkward length, or a pair of pants you’re turning into shorts – we’ll show you how to hem them properly using a sewing machine.
This isn’t a class for total beginners. To get the most out of this session, you’ll need to have completed our Level 1–3 sewing classes or have at least sewn two garments following a commercial pattern. If you’re unsure whether this is the right fit for you, feel free to get in touch before booking.
In the three-hour session, most people complete one to two garments. We recommend bringing along 3 – 4 options, just in case some aren’t suitable for the session.
Project: Hemming 1-2 garments

- To join this workshop, you’ll need to have completed our Level 1, 2, and 3 sewing classes or have equivalent experience. That means you should be able to confidently thread and operate a sewing machine independently and have successfully sewn at least two garments using commercial patterns. If you’re unsure whether this class is the right fit, feel free to get in touch before booking, we’re happy to guide you.
- Most people come solo to this class, so if you’re thinking about booking on your own, chances are you won’t be the only one. Our teachers are warm, friendly, and always make sure solo guests feel welcome and supported.
- We welcome all genders and identities in our inclusive space.
- We can’t hem extremely thick fabrics or materials that require an industrial machine (e.g. leather, denim jackets, heavy curtains).
- Please don’t bring large formal gowns, wedding dresses, or anything requiring significant space – this type of hemming should be done in a private session with one of our teachers.
- Most people complete 1-2 garments in the session. We recommend bringing 3-4 options, just in case some aren’t suitable or take more time than expected.
- This workshop focuses on hems only – if you’re after other types of alterations, a private lesson will be more suitable.
- Closed-toe shoes are recommended for your safety
- Our studio unfortunately isn’t wheelchair accessible. We’re sorry for the inconvenience.

Absolutely enjoyed the Sewing for Beginners class! Coming into the class, I was nervous at first, but Sophie made it so easy. I appreciate her detailed explanations of the machine and pointers, and her advice on buying a machine was super helpful. Highly recommend for anyone starting their sewing journey!

I cannot recommend Sydney Creative highly enough. I had the most incredible sewing class today. Sophie was so encouraging, and gave excellent and clear guidance. She gave me just what I needed and let me take it the rest of the way. She’s a fabulous teacher and is so passionate about her craft. Also, the space is lovely. I’m already planning my next class. If you’re considering doing a class with Sophie and Sydney Creative, do it, do it, do it!

I did the beginners sewing class on Saturday and it was great fun, the teacher Danni was really friends and clear with her instructions. If anyone can teach me to sew, they are amazing! I can’t wait to come back and do the earrings and pizza class. Thank you!
