Relaxed and fun experience making your own coloured chips and tray - it was really simple and enjoyable and gives you a really cute dish to take home and use.

Founded in 2019 within Redfern’s creative hub 107 Projects, Sydney Creative began as a single sewing class and has evolved into a thriving studio offering a wide range of hands-on workshops. When the time felt right, we moved into our own permanent home, opening our shopfront studio in 2021.
Today, Sydney Creative hosts an ever-growing program of workshops – from candle and soap making to sewing, painting, and jewellery making. Our sessions are designed for all experience levels and focus on creativity, connection, and confidence rather than perfection.
Alongside our regular public classes, we host a lot of private events for hens parties and birthdays. We’ve facilitated large-scale mobile workshops – including a 400-person Reed Diffuser Making event for UNSW – and welcomed teams from brands such as Chanel, Canva, Amex, and Modibodi to our studio for their corporate experiences.
Our venue has become known for its friendly, pink-filled atmosphere, where guests can slow down, have fun, and make something by hand. Whether you join us alone, with a friend, or as part of a group event, you’ll always be met with warmth, patience, and creativity.

I grew up in North Wales, UK, and was always doing something creative as a child and was encouraged to pursue a career doing what I loved.
I studied a BA (Hons) in Textile Design in Birmingham, where I learned to sew, weave, embroider, and print on fabric. I chose an elective in ceramics and glass fusing, which I then incorporated into my textile work. My mentors pushed me hard to think differently, and that’s where I learned that creativity isn’t about avoiding mistakes, it’s about pushing through them and seeing what happens. All of my final pieces came from “mistakes”, and that’s shaped how I teach. I remind people that creativity isn’t about getting it perfect, it’s about letting go, trusting the process, and seeing where it takes you.
When I moved to Sydney in 2014, I bought a sewing machine and started selling my work at local markets. I had a thought that perhaps people might like to learn how to sew, so I decided to list my first one-on-one class, and to my surprise, someone booked in. From there, things grew quickly, from one-on-one sessions to group workshops, and eventually to what’s now Sydney Creative.
Since opening our Redfern shopfront in 2021, I’ve poured my heart into shaping the studio into one of Sydney’s most recognisable creative spaces – known for its signature pink aesthetic, friendly atmosphere, and welcoming energy. I personally develop every class we offer and train the staff, ensuring each session is approachable, enjoyable, and designed to help people make something a bit different.
Of all the workshops, my Sewing for Beginners class will always be the most special to me. It’s the class that started everything and I love watching people relax into the process. Seeing people’s faces light up when they finish their cushion cover and realise they’ve actually done it is the best feeling.
