Got a sewing machine at home but no idea how to use it? In this private 1:1 session, we’ll teach you everything you need to know to get started – from threading and tension to basic stitches and troubleshooting.
This session is all about your machine – whether it’s brand new, inherited, or still in the box. Your teacher will tailor the class to suit your machine’s specific functions and features, so you’ll walk away feeling confident using it on your own.
Project: We normally recommend starting with either an envelope cushion cover, tote bag or zippered pouch.

- How to follow a simple pattern
- What the dials and settings do
- How and when to adjust the tension
- Winding the bobbin
- Threading the machine
- Sewing straight lines and seam allowances
- Troubleshooting tips
- Backstitching
- Finishing raw edges with a zig zag
- A sewing pattern to take home
- All tools, fabric and thread provided
- Full guidance from one of our skilled instructors
- A quick reference card to keep by your machine at home
- Complimentary water, tea, coffee & cookies
- This class is open to everyone aged 13+, and you don’t need any prior sewing experience.
- Suitable for absolute beginners or those wanting to feel more confident using their sewing machine. Our teachers are warm, friendly, and always make sure participants feel welcome and supported.
- We welcome all genders and identities in our inclusive space.
- All materials and tools are included
- Closed-toe shoes are recommended for your safety
- Your machine must either be brand new or have been serviced within the last 12 months by a reputable sewing machine technician.
- This class is for standard domestic sewing machines only. If you’re looking to learn how to use an overlocker, we offer a separate class just for that which you can find here. At this stage, we’re not offering classes for embroidery machines.
- Our studio unfortunately isn’t wheelchair accessible. We’re sorry for the inconvenience.
Due to high demand and limited class sizes, all bookings are final and non-refundable. We’re happy to reschedule your booking as long as it meets the conditions below:
- Rescheduling with more than 7 days’ notice: free of charge
- Rescheduling with less than 7 days’ notice: $50 per person rescheduling fee
- Rescheduling with less than 24 hours’ notice: no reschedule or refund available
