Overlockers Made Easy
Got an overlocker that’s still in the box (or gathering dust)? This private one-on-one session is designed to help you finally feel confident using it.
Whether you bring your own overlocker or borrowing one of ours (Janome ML644D), we’ll guide you through the key functions and help you get familiar with your machine.
This isn’t a project-based class, it’s all about building confidence and skills so you can take control of your machine and actually use it. Because every overlocker is different, we’ll tailor the session to suit your specific model as best we can.
Please note: If you’re bringing your own machine, it must have been serviced or purchased within the last 12 months.
What you'll learn
- How to thread your overlocker (with plenty of guided practice, and if you’d like, your teacher can film you threading your machine using your phone so you have a reference for later)
- The difference between 3-thread and 4-thread stitching and when to use each
- How to remove and replace needles safely
- How to adjust tension for clean, even seams
- How to use your stitch length and differential feed dials for different fabrics
- How to create traditional, narrow, and rolled hems (depending on your machine’s capabilities)
- How to adjust the cutting knife (or lower it when needed)
- How to clean, oil and maintain your machine to keep it running smoothly
- A private one-on-one session tailored to your machine
- Use of one of our studio overlockers (if you don’t have your own)
- Thread and fabric for practicing techniques
- A relaxed and supportive environment with expert guidance
- Complimentary water, tea, coffee and cookies
- This class is open to everyone aged 13+.
- We recommend being able to sew on a sewing machine first, before taking this class.
- Suitable for anyone looking to work on a specific project with one-on-one guidance, or for those who simply prefer learning in a private setting over group workshops. Our instructors are warm, friendly, and tailor the session to support your individual goals – no matter your skill level.
- We welcome all genders and identities in our inclusive space.
- All materials and tools are included
- Closed-toe shoes are recommended for your safety
- Your machine must either be brand new or have been serviced within the last 12 months by a reputable sewing machine technician.
- This class is for domestic overlockers only. We do not offer classes for coverstitch machines at this stage.
Due to high demand and limited class sizes, all bookings are final and non-refundable. We’re happy to reschedule your booking as long as it meets the conditions below:
- Rescheduling with more than 7 days’ notice: free of charge
- Rescheduling with less than 7 days’ notice: $50 per person rescheduling fee
- Rescheduling with less than 24 hours’ notice: no reschedule or refund available
